Because the recovery partition is the only means of recovery that came with the machine, it is not recommended that you remove the data within the service partition or delete the partition to reclaim the additional hard disk drive space.

What distro to use ?

En principio cuando os bajeis las imágenes ISO de los CDs, encontrareis que los archivos acaban en 'i386.ISO', 'i586.ISO' o bien 'i686.ISO'. Los 'i386.ISO' contienen el kernel y utilidades compiladas para la arquitectura 386 de intel, con lo que funcionan en PC's 386 y superior. Los 'i586' funcionan con Pentium o superior, y los 'i686' son para PentiumPro. Todavía no he visto imágenes ISO optimizadas para Pentium IV, cosa lógica porque todavía hay pocas máquinas en el mercado con ese procesador y, sobre todo, porque GCC todavía no dispone de la opción para generar código especfico para Pentium IV.

Save old boot sector

Automatic

When Lilo overwrites a boot sector, it saves a backup copy in /boot/boot.xxyy, where xxyy are the major and minor numbers of the device, in hex.

You can see the numbers, in decimal, of your disk or partition by running ls -l /dev/device.
