The state of Michoacan is located to the west of Mexico City. In the Uruapan mountains, surrounding the beautiful lake of Patzcuaro where the Purepecha or "Tarasques" people founded a kingdom, they imposed their power during the last half of the XIII century and up until the XVI century, with the arrival of the Spaniards, lead by Cortes.
Little by little, during the colonisation, the Spanish traditions mixed with the original Indian songs and gave a crossbreeding folklore where joy combines with dignity and respect, two characteristics of the Purepechas.
