Mare de Déu del Camí Choir

English In 1968, in Cambrils (Tarragona, Spain), the mixed choir Verge del Camí was founded, thanks to a group of young enthusiasts of choral music. It takes its name from a historical monument, an old chapel dedicated to the “Virgin of the Road”. Since then, and until now, the choir has worked hard towards improving and obtaining a good level, as was proved through several prizes won in poliphonic choir contests, amongst which we point out :Avilés (Asturias), Egea de los Caballeros (Zaragoza), Igualada (Barcelona), and the Christmas Carol contest in Reus (Tarragona).

The choir has also intervened in several cycles and festival: Church Music Cycles at the Monastery of Santes Creus (Tarragona), Segorbe (Castellón), Monuments Vius (Cataluña), Tomás Luis de Victoria (Madrid), Traditional Music Fair in Manresa (Barcelona), Catalan Feast School (FesCat) in Llivia (Lleida), Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona), and pretty regularly at the International Festival of Music organized each summer in its hometown, Cambrils. The choir has also sung in several spanish regions, such as Aragón, Asturias, Extremadura, the Basque Country, Madrid, and Valencia, and in different countries such as Germany, Belgium, France, Italy Switzerland, and overseas Argentina and Uruguay.

At present the choir has thirty members, and has made several recordings, as well as a CD. Recordings were made at channel 33 of the Catalan Television, Channel 5 TV in Uruguay, Radio Fribourg (Switzerland), Radio Reus, Radio Tarragona, Catalunya Cultura and Radio 2 of the Spanish National Radio.

On top of its concert activities, it develops didactic work with the Children’s Choir and classes of Vocal Technique. And, as usual, the annual cycle of concerts in its home town.

Present choir master is
Núria Ortoneda.
